Get moving. Physical exercise is very important for maintaining a happy mood. During exercise, your brain will release hormones (epinephrine, norepinephrine, Adrenaline, Cortisol) which helps the body respond to stress. Low levels can cause lethargy, lack of concentration, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and possibly depression. 2. Get proper sleep at night. Usually 8 hours of restful sleep is recommended but it can differ amongst different people.
3. Eat a balanced diet everyday. Remember to include all the vital food groups in your daily diet. Stay away from overeating or undereating to stay healthy. Drink plenty of fluids.
4. Spend sometime everyday with yourself in solitude, calming your mind and reflecting on yourself. Meditate, and learn the techniques of deep breathing and relaxing.
5. Develop a hobby, or just spend some time everyday doing things you enjoy like music, art, strolling, bird watching etc.
6. Take time out with friends. The research — led by scientists at the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL, suggests that “SuperAgers,” are adults who have the mental agility of much younger people, most assuredly have close friends who they can talk to wholeheartedly.
7. Watch out for activities you are doing, or people you are associating with, which is causing an increased amount of stress. Once you have identified the possible cause of stress try to decrease indulging in those activities or associations until you feel better.
8. Get help from a professional to reduce stress and anxiety if you have tried all of the above.
